Since about the age of 14, I’ve commonly found myself yearning for a complete revamp/personality change/makeover at the end of the summer (hasn’t everyone?). Forever in my life this has coincided with the end of the summer holidays and the fast-approaching start of term, so often manifested itself into a whole new stationery set, some new clothes and some new ‘morning routine’ that was never bound to last…
This year is the first year that is different. There is no start of term and no routine to fall back into. For someone who has always resented change, I’m surprisingly excited for what this September has to offer and the small beginnings of proper full-fledged adulthood. Isn’t it crazy that we are supposedly adults from aged 18? I definitely did not feel like an adult at 18 and I even feel bold to say that I mildly feel adult at almost aged-22.
In the spirit of September and also with my birthday approaching in October, I thought I’d list some of the things that I’ve been eyeing up recently. I’m constantly writing things down that I like or inspire me, but often its quite an unattainable selection. Why not share what I’m enjoying? If I can’t buy it, at least let me talk to you about it.
Wishlist
Ganni Gimme More – this in my opinion takes the crown for coffee table books. Not only is it green and pink (my favourite colour combination), but it is dedicated to one of my absolute favourite brands and can act as a constant, tangible wishlist. I do need an apartment with a coffee table before I continue buying big books like these though.
Sandy Liang Earrings – something completely unattainable but constantly on my mind… the Sandy Liang ‘Ballerina Earrings’ are not only sold out (so I can’t even be tempted) but are also $175 (enough said). I LOVE the gold and silver combo and I love the gorgeous, embroidered pouch that they come in almost just as much.
Lisa Says Gah – this brand’s ‘Tapas Collection’ is constantly open on my google chrome tabs, just for a weekly scroll and ahhh at the cute foodie printed items. Perhaps a good thing that summer has finished now, so I can’t be tempted to buy the especially lovely swimwear.
Djerf Avenue Robe – out of everything on the Djerf Avenue website, I feel the ‘Fruit Robe’ is the most justifiable. Who doesn’t love a pretty dressing gown? Especially this one – covered in pastel-coloured fruits and designed by Matilda Djerf (the it-girl of 2020s Instagram). Again, it being sold out is definitely a good thing.
Favourites
I also wanted to share some of my favourite purchases I have made over the summer, and things I have been enjoying (that I actually own!)
Jimmy Fairly Freja Sunglasses – I have never been one to look after my sunglasses, always finding the cheapest pair I can that slightly suit me (often not…), but at the beginning of this summer I finally made the investment into a decent pair of sunnies, and I can’t tell you what a difference it makes. Jimmy Fairly are such a cool brand, with loads of super cool styles and frames to choose from. The Freja style has served me well all summer and maybe I will have to invest in an even funkier pair next summer…
Bimba y Lola Dress – this dress from the ‘Nickname’ collection instantly caught my eye. Dragging George into the store on four separate occasions to look at it, I finally decided to treat myself. I have since worn it so many times and received so many compliments. It is a super cool and unique dress that I am absolutely so glad I bought… even after much deliberation!
Zara Silver Ballet Flats – having seen the original silver ballet flats on the website a few months before (the ones with the little bows), I had convinced myself I needed some in my wardrobe, very rational as usual. Seeing the new design in person with the gorgeous buckle strap detail and square toe, I couldn’t resist. These are one of my favourite purchases, and I can’t wait to style them loads of different ways.
THE Ganni Blouse – the Ganni poplin blouse had been haunting me on every single platform since before Christmas. At an absolutely unjustifiable £135 (plus £15 shipping… which is what stopped me every time), I resorted to scouring Depop and Vinted almost every day for the blouse. When it appeared in my searches whilst on holiday, I bought it almost immediately… and haven’t looked back since. This is your sign to buy it too and blame it on me.
Love every piece! You are a bad influence on me 😭😭
